Unusual issue - 1996 Ford Probe not turning Sign In

My girlfriend was about to drive home from work when she called me and said that the engine won't even turn. She said when she got into the car, she could hear a sound coming out of the speakers, like the sound when the radio is searching for a station. This is before she even put the key in.

I asked her if she left anything on and she said no. She said nothing turns on when you put the key in and turn it, nor does the engine try to crank. I figured it might be a dead battery, but the car won't jump either.

This is stock with no aftermarket stereo equipment. The battery was replaced about 2 months ago.

I'm wondering if there's a short in the electrical system somewhere or audio and we're hearing a possible ground loop - I really don't know as I"m scratching my head on this one.

Check the battery cables to ensure that they are clean, tight and not messed up.
Check all fuses too.
In my experience with these cars, its usually the ground cable loose at the clamp.

If cleaning the connections doesn't get it to start, you will want to have the battery test before getting too deep into it..
