Undercarriage hit=trouble under the hood Sign In

Hello!

I drove over a high snow berm recently (unintentionally), and hit something hard on my undercarriage. From a stop, and beginning to move, I hear a "Woop-woop-woop-woop" noise becoming faster while accelerating; concurrently I also hear a a rubbing/grinding sound isolated to the central or right-hand side under the hood on the passenger side just when I begin to accelerate. No effect on the drive-ability of the car. The sound under the hood is a light squealing, but I cannot determine from which component. I have had a recent oil change, and have recently sealed a crack in the exhaust pipe.

I cannot see the damage very well from this vantage point . I would go to a local shop . Ask them to lift and inspect for a small charge and advise you of repairs needed.

I just got this issue resolved yesterday...it turned out to be a metal fastener rubbing against the driveshaft. When I hit the berm, it pushed the fastener close enough to the driveshaft so that when the car was in motion (and the driveshaft dropped down), it would be scraping against it. However, when we were inspecting the undercarriage, it looked as though there was enough space around the driveshaft. Anyway, a really weird problem that was easily fixed.
