Turning the key multiple times before the car starts Sign In

Hi,
I just recently started having a problem where I have to turn the key multiple times before the car starts. All the lights go on but nothing more happens. All I need to do is turn the key back and then try starting it again; sometimes it starts right away, sometimes on the second try and sometimes it doesn't start until I have turned it like twenty times. The car is Hyundai Elantra 2004. Any ideas as to what the problem is? A little more information: I do need to press the clutch before the car starts; the battery is pretty new (a few months old), I never had it give me problems if I stopped momentarily (e.g. getting gas); once it is up and running, everything runs fine. I appreciate any help I can get

Clean all the battery connections. They must be shiny and tight. Put a bit of dielectric grease on them when you put it back together to hold off future corrosion. Go to the starter connections as well. Don't forget to leave the ground wire on the battery unhooked while cleaning off the starter wires. Pay special attention to the small trigger wire. Sounds like you have a bad contact at either the battery or the starter. It does no good to look at them when they're bolted down, you need to get them apart to determine if you have good contact. If that doesn't solve it we will need to test it further.
