Transmission Shifting Slow and a Little Noisy	Sign In

I ahve a 1988 Olsmobile 98 with a 3.8 motor. The engine light is on with a code 26,27,28,29 and 41. It shifts a little rough betweed D and OD. Maybe doesn't even go into OD, not sure. Also brakes were locking up front disc brake. Lubricating caliper slides seemed to help that problem. Could a locked caliper cause these transmission problem?

I could be wrong but there shouldn't be a way the brakes alone should cause a check engine light to light. If you have ABS a separate light would go on and if real troubles a red light would come on and that means fix it now! T

Thanks. I just found out that the Torque Converter Clutch switch(??) was unplugged. Now I am thinking that with it plugged back in, the Vehicle Speed Sensor could be bad. Also noticed trans fluid is off-colored and smells a little burnt. My brother-in-law mentioned a modulater(??) or having the fluid flushed. Any more thoughts? Thanks.

The trans should not cause real trouble for the engine. There is electrical communication to computer as to which is doing what but I think it's more engine info telling the trans what to do. I believe and see all the time that AutoZone and some others will read codes and tell you what they mean. They can be misleading as to the real problem.

Changing the trans fluid and filter won't hurt anything but it's a crap shoot as to wether it will solve the problem. Burnt and smelly fluid is a bad sign and at 19 or so years old only you can decide if it's worth some investment in it. It's hard to know when to give up and cut your losses, T
