Toyota 4Runner-won't start-alarm goes off when I open door Sign In

2002-Toyoya-4Runner-102,340 mileage (one owner-me)

My 4Runner all of the sudden decided not to start and when ever I open a door, the alarm goes off.... After parking it yesterday for approx. 45 min., I went to start my 4Runner and it sounded like it didn't want to turn over, then completely went dead. It has always started up immediately, so I thought possibly it was the battery, but after waiting for about an hour, it did start, but while driving home, the horn would go off (about 7 very short-quick beeps) about every 2 to 4 minutes the entire drive home. When I got home, about 45 minutes later, when I opened the door to get out, the alarm went off and stopped by itself, after a couple minutes. This morning I went to start it and when I opened the door, again the alarm went off and it would not start, absolutely NOTHING! It didn't make a sound, no turning over, no click, no nothing. Every time I open the door, the alarm will go off! PLEASE HELP!

Note: The alarm light indicator (just under the steering wheel, to the left) is flashing and I haven't used my alarm since my remote stopped working several months ago. When I had my remote, I never locked or unlocked my door with my key, as I had always locked and unlocked with my remote. For the last several months, however, I've been locking up by pressing the door lock, which locks all the doors and I've been unlocking with my key. My point is, I did not and have not activated the alarm for several months, so I'm unsure as to how or why the alarm indicator is flashing, since I thought you'd have to activate the alarm in order for that light to flash, but since I know absolutely nothing about auto repair, I'm not sure if this is helpful or not. I should also mention that I don't believe I've ever changed out the battery from when I bought this truck "new" 2002. In fact the only work I've ever had done on it is preventive maintenance. This is the first time I've ever had a problem, so I suppose it's due.

I TRULY would appreciate any advice or suggestions as to what the problem might be.

Frown PLEASE, PLEASE HELP!!!

Thank You
