That would be called the shift interlock feature. It operates on the same circuit as the brake lights so the first thing you want to do is to make sure the brake lights are working when this problem is present. If the brake lights are working, that proves the circuit is good up to that point, then you'll have to get to the solenoid in the console. Disassemble as much as you have to to access the solenoid near the shifting mechanism. Us a 12v test light to test for power coming and going at the solenoid when the brake is applied. If power is arriving and switching and the solenoid is not triggering, the solenoid is bad and will have to be replaced.

I'm down to round mechanism, Is there a trick to the unplugging it seems stuck and don't want to break anything.
I called a couple of parts stores, seems it might be a dealer only item?

Thank you!

Try turning the key on one step, not all the way to light up the dash and then see if it shifts. If so, put it in neutral and start it.

Re: Tough getting out of park Sign In

I'm Sorry, I meant to unplug it, ( 2 wires ) so I can test. Has some red thingy, push or pull don't want to break it.

Additionally if I fiddle a bit (around 3-8 times), a bit it will come out of park.

Thank you,

I don't know what kind of plug it has. You would have to post a close-up picture to be able to tell. It may have a lock that has to be moved or removed before the release tab can be squeezed.

Re: Tough getting out of park Sign In

Hammer Time,

I finally got it free, I unplugged, it seems to shift normally.

I'll set parking brake, till I can locate the part and install.

Any suggestions for removing & reinstalling shift interlock?

Do you know if that is dealer only part? as I called a couple parts stores.

Hammer Time, Thank you !!!

Re: Tough getting out of park Sign In

I don't have any instruction for removing it. It will definitely be a dealer item though.
