Stuck Fuel Line {{HELP}} Sign In

I'm trying change the fuel filter on an 85 caprice w/rochester quadrajunk carb. I put a wrench on the housing nut and then try to back off the fuel line compression fitting, i can get about 3/4 of a turn then it started to twist the metal fuel line. I tried spraying wd-40 into the backside of the nut to feed into the sleeve and it still wants to twist. If anybody can give me any pointers or tips it would be greatly appreciated.

It's a flare nut fitting at least originally. Try some PB penetrating solvent on line to inside flare nut, let set a while. If it refuses to break free it's possible to make a whole new one with generic line and tubing bender. A PITA for whole thing or a flaring set (tools) with line and brass union may be easier.

Careful if cutting the line then getting the filter housing off as there's a near invisible clear nylon (usually) gasket about the diameter of a quarter dollar - don't lose that as it make the seal NOT the threads there! DO NOT USE TEFLON TAPE!

My era and got good at those and they are/were a frustrating carb but everything set properly ran excellent,

T

Thanks Tom,

I was hoping to avoid cutting the line but I just might have to. I'll let you know how it turns out.

The nut is corroded to the line. If you spray it down good with some good penetrating oil and then just keep lightly working it back and forth while holding the big nut still but not to the point of twisting the line. It should eventually work free.

Thanks guys,

I sprayed the hell out of it and just worked it back and forth like an 1/8 of a turn each way and it finally came free. After pulling the old filter out, I found out it was half crushed.

Yep, that's the way it is done.
