Steering rack ajustment

Hi I have an excessive axial and radial clearance (0.5") in the steering rack causing noise and play in the steering wheel, the remedy is to replace the steering rack ( expensive ) is for Range Rover but the design is very similar in most later model SUV's

Does somebody experience adjusting the big poke screw that is sealed in the steering rack? Thanks a million folks
