Should I donate, trade-in, or sell for parts?	Sign In

I have a 93 Nissan Altima with 140K miles. The transmission is acting up and the dealership gave me a $6K estimate to replace the transmission. I am looking for a new/used car now but am not sure what to do with the car I have now. It is in good condition exccept for some scratches, small dings from wear-n-tear.

Options I am considering:
-Donate
-Trade-in
-Sell for parts

I am open to suggestions of other options. Please help!

I don’t know about your area but here there are organizations working with “troubled” kids that are in detention or group homes.
They take donations of older vehicles, appliances, electronics anything that they can take apart and tinker with, in the hope of sparking an interest and get the kids involved with a trade or something other then the streets.
Here in Ontario we have “Car heaven” and “Teen Challenge” you take your donation to the organizers of the program they appraise the item at a fair market value and give you a tax receipt; witch it 100% deductible on your taxes.
So my vote would go towards donating it to something along these lines.

I totally agree with Dan about the donation but I also don't understand why this fix is $6.000.00 !!!! Good grief where I live the junkyards would put a good engine and trans in your car for less than half that! T
