Saturn, VUE 03' V6 AWD 89K
My car sounds like a windup toy when I accelerate and then when it slows down it does the same thing. It is like a humming sound that I can hear above the engines normal noise.
At a recent oil change I was recommended to get my transmission fluid flushed... could that be it? I'm not great with cars so I'm trying to see if it's an easy fix.

From your description is sounds like a bearing maybe going out... Without being able to hear the noise makes it a little tough.
If you can hear it while the car is sitting still, then it is probably in the engine area, if the car has to be moving then it would be in the wheel area..... This is assuming it's a bearing noise and not something else like a noisy fuel pump, fan motor, etc.....
