S10 fuel problems..injector not kicking on.. Sign In

I have a 1990 S10 2.5L 4cyl and it was missing, backfiring, rough idle...pulled the distrib. and changed pick up in it...still the truck will not start without pouring gas down it...fuel pump new and working, new fuel filter and plugs and wires and distrib cap and rotor...also tried a new injector still no gas spraying out...gas is getting to injector ...does anyone know what might cause the injector to not be kicked on? ty

Was the truck running before you replaced the “pick up” (but running rough) or did it die and then you changed the pick up?
Just curious as to whether the no start is after or before your attempt at the repair?
If after, is it something you’ve done incorrectly or have you installed a defective/inadequate replacement part?
Have you checked the ECM (electronic control module) fuses? There should be two fuses in the under dash fuse panel; one marked ECM which supplies power to the injectors and a portion of the ECM that is key switched and the other ECM-B is constant power to the ECM regardless of key position.
If you can answer these questions then maybe we’ll be able to continue with a few more detailed tests.
Dan.

the truck was misfiring, stalling and dying and backfiring before we replaced the pick up in it...it was also lurching bad and wouldnt hold a steady idle more or less acting like it wasnt getting gas or wasnt getting good spark...after changing fuel pump and filter and plugs, distrib cap and rotor...we were told it might be the pick up...there is only one way to install the pick up in the distrib so doubtful its something not installed right...there is a magnetic part which I now know is called a hall effect switch that looked pretty bad, kinda burnt looking but wasnt aware at the time that it sent a signal to ecm to pulse the injectors..no bad fuses all been checked and yep the ecm is getting juice...maybe new distrib?
