Rodeo Starter Wont Crank If Wheel Is turned	Sign In

I have a 1997 Isuzu Rodeo (6 cyl.) that will not crank if the wheel is turned. Until yesterday, as long as I made sure the wheel was straight it would start without issue. Yesterday, four times, it was hesitating to start regardless of wheel position. This problem baffles me because, in my slight knowledge of cars/mechanics, the wheels/steering are not directly related to the starting of the engine. I did remove the starter today and take it to an auto parts store to have it checked and there is no issue with the starter. I dont know what is happening to this thing... Any suggestions are appreciated.

Do the clock and radio pre-sets get lost when it won't start? Just a hunch that by turning you are completing a connection that is bad or totally broken or bad ground or power for that matter and the act of turning is just enough to make it work,

I'd have to agree with Tom about the problem being in the column..

Just a little advise.
When any system on your vehicle starts to fail, i.e having to jiggle, pound on, blow on, hold in a certain direction, that is a sign of problems and just because a trick works for a while is no guarantee it will always work. A lot of times it's the exact opposite and at some point the system fails completely.... and usually this happens at the worst possible time for the driver, never when it's convenient..
