Hello! A few months back my Renault Laguna 2001 began having start issues. When pressing the start button, the engine did not turn over and I could only hear a click from en engine. Push starting was no problem. I replaced the battery (had to be replaced anyways), but that didn't solve it. I replaced the starter engine, and the problem disappeared.
Two days ago, the I had the same problem again. But after pressing the start button 2-3 times it started normally. This happened a few times that day and also a couple times yesterday.
But today when I was tryign to start the car, I could hear the engine turn over slightly before failing (almost like there was something holding it back), then I only got the clickign again no matter how many times I tired. I waited a couple hours and tried again, but it wont start! Engine is not turning over, I just hear the click and nothign else.
Is the new starter dead? I bought it from an auto parts dealer in december, brand new. Could it be anything else or maybe a problem with some wires?

Charge battery with a charger. All battery cables must be clean and good, wire brushed up and a smear of electrical grease plus just inspect them if they look corroded or have been hot showing problems with the insulation.
That slow crank and clicks is common to poor connections or battery under charged. You said it at least clicks suggesting the trigger wire to solenoid is getting power but clean up the cables first or replace if need be. You also said it starts with a push suggesting more that it's mostly OK just weak.
When cleaning battery terminals or cables always take negative post off first and back on last when all done.
Once this is known to be done and good we'll need to go on to battery testing, newer or not, charging system and the starter itself. Know this that electric motors do not like being under powered and could harm them,
