Rear end keeps sliding out (2004 Corolla) Struts?

2004 Toyota Corolla 1.8L auto trans 110k miles
In my development where i live there is a long down hill windy street and over the past two weeks I had this happen twice on the same exact right hand turn. The back end of my wifes corolla slides out on me sending the car obviously into a sideways slide. Fortunately Ive been traveling slow enough that I can correct the slide with no issues.
- the tires are about a year old with about 7,000 miles and are properly inflated.
- I wasnt speeding......and to be honest in the past running late for work I have probably taken that turn 2x as fast with no issues.....
- The roads were bone dry, no ice, or rain
The only thing that ive noticed with the road is there is a slight gradual heave in the pavement due to the freezing temps right in the begining of the turn. so im thinking that it must bounce the car enough to get the car out of its weight balance and cause the skid???
Now that beening said, my rear struts would more then likely be the culprit no??? the car has 110k miles and none of the struts have been replaced....however besides this issue, the suspension feels tight....no creaks, leaks, or excssive bounce out of the struts....no unusual tire wear
I have a feeling its probably the struts, but wanted to bounce the idea off of you guys first

Wow! If I understand this properly I guess I would blame the struts. Just maybe an improper parking brake adjustment or problem. Most should have several clicks to hold. If too tight they might not like or grab some with car and wheels riding an uneven surface with the body lean of the curve. It's on the wild guess list to me anyway?? Tom

Thats possible but you would think if the strut got that bad to give you that kind of a handling issue you would be able to see a visual oil leak, plus you would feel it "float" in other corners.....It's over a 100k, so it's possible but the frt stuts take the bigger hit due weight & all the other fwd factors....
I would want to see some alignment spec and where the rear end is tracking....Get the thrust angle to far out to the right side & have all the planets align and I could see the rear breaking loose in a tight corner......
Take a good look at the rear thread...If you have some inner cupping going on the your looking at a strut problem....If you have diagonal slashing on the tread, then your rear toe is off & more that likely the thrust angle to....

I've run into a few Toyota sedans with struts that had locked up. Had one customer that was driving a Corolla with locked up front struts. The gauges would blur when you hit bumps and you could feel that the suspension had no give. The customer didn't even realize that it wasn't normal.
Locked up struts won't even give, so if you do a bounce test and you don't know what your looking for, you'll think the struts are fine.
Locked up struts will make the vehicle bounce like a basket and you could probably lose control in a situation as the OP experiences.

Still guessing: Perhaps just replacing struts is in order just by miles and now some age? Just maybe the "shock'' absorption effect would pass the bounce test but could "top" out too easily as when wheel(s) are fully extended. IDK but perhaps test the bounce thing again with lifting instead of pushing down and see how it feels which may not show much.
Full four wheel thrust angle alignment would be in order too of course. If something is bent it would or should show up with that??

I dont think its your struts as if they were that bad to actually thow you out of control you would be bouncing all over the place and there would be some kind of noise coming from the mounting plates.
Its possible that one of your coils on your struts have a crack or broken.
But more likely i would say your stabilizer bar, Bushings and links broke and with high wind gave to much lean.
Sounds dangerous i advise having a class A mechanic have a look hopefully you dont have kids in the car.

The car drives normally otherwise. I'll have to get under the car and inspect
