Well, I guess my Ford Taurus SES is not the only one whose heater isn't working. Mine started about 6 months ago. I got the regulator cause the high low worked only on high.
I noticed the blower motor works, the a/c works good, the heater blows faint lukewarm air and then turns cold. I replaced a new thermostat, cooling tip sensor, fuses, air filter, did a tune up, regular oil changes, winterized my car with fluids, and replaced the alternator.
I figured it might be the heater core, but, it hasn't over-heated. I keep hearing all sorts of things it could be and I'm just stumped. I purchased a heater core at Advanced Auto Parts for $54.00 as I'm going to try that. The car is good but been through a lot when I took it over. I've replaced just about everything on it. Tongue
If anyone has any ideas; feel free to write me back. I know to replace the heater core is underneath the Taurus, so, I might have to take the dash off, which I'm not looking forward to.
If anyone can tell me a few things to do it right, let me know? Is the heater core the issue? Also, what is a blender door and a actuator? Could those parts be my issue? I'm just about out of ideas. Unimpressed
Thank You,
Marlena B.

Re: No heat in Taurus - not thermostat or heater core Sign In

What year is this car?

I'd spend a lot of time flushing a non leaking core before I'd replace one on a Taurus. A week's work for a good DIYer - no fun at all on those!

The symptom of "faint heat to cold" is consistant with low flow thru core. Could even be the water pump!

More to check first. Coolant known full in the radiator - hard to tell when some don't put the caps on radiators.

Note: A partial plugged core if the only issue would probably blow luke warm after shutting heat off and back on again or with lowest fan - then highest fan would blow cooler to cold,

Re: No heat in Taurus - not thermostat or heater core Sign In

Just to add to what Tom said. My personal car is a 98 Ford Taurus. I had been having trouble with it getting a bit hotter than normal during the heat of our Texas summers. Suspecting a water pump problem based on some investigating I removed the T-stat as a temp fix. Had a cold snap here today so decided I needed some heat. New T-stat and water pump were in order along with flushing the heater core. Even though the car is not overheating don't assume the water pump is ok. It could be pushing enough coolant though the system to keep the car at close to normal temp but not enough flow to heat up the heater core. These cars are tough on heater cores so a good work over with the hose as Tom said would be time well spent before going after something else.

Side not. Water pump is more money that the core but about a million times easier to replace.

Good Luck
Jeff
