Computers, e-books and stuff out there will get you started but with all the high teck stuff I still think some courses at a Voc school which are offered where I am as evening courses with hands on training and classroom. If you are into it go for it and I would suggest really learning the priciples not just a specific car. Good luck and as much as I like what a computer can do sometimes a good book -- my favorite was written by William H. Crouse. You can do it, T

Factor in the cost of tools which can be nasty.

If you are in NYC there must be a wealth of choices. I went to college for this stuff but the tech work was after hours and they still do that called "adult ed" and buzz words like that and they still are inexpensive.

Can't speak for every place but I went to Middlesex Community College for a two year degree and the shop work both class and shop was a short drive to a vocational high school after the school was done for the day. Same teachers and and techs that were so dedicated their pay was of no issue. Tools were available at the shop donated by Snap-On tools and you had to sign them out and return them. We were able to work on our own cars if it was in the subject area. Bless his heart a shop teacher on cruches from diabetes and smart as a whip showed me how to redo a transmission -- my hands his knowlege. Amazing!!!!

OK: Place to find these places: Any high school's office should know what is best and close to you.

Possible plan B. on line would be by brother -- owner of GreenleafLearning.com I think but he does a lot of work in NYC and would have contacts. I don't. If you need to and can't find him on a search hit me at home and I'll forward. Try to use a subject line that says Carjunky so I would know it's you.

Good luck and here to help. You should be able to click on my name or if that doesn't fly hit TEFeuilleVerte@Comcast.net should work. We can find you what you need, T
