I have a SUZUKI SWIFT 1.0 i Petrol (09/91 - 12/05) 2001
73,000 miles

I ran out of fuel when the problem started. I filled the car with more fuel and sometime it would start sometimes it would not. I was bumping it off to get it going sometimes, but sometimes it would start straight away, but then again sometime it wouldnt. It seemed to have a little life in it at first, then just seemed to die and wouldnt start.

The i tried bumping it off still and that stopped working.

I figured i have clogged the fuel filter but im hoping its not located in the fuel tank, that would be a nightmare.

I started filling the carb with a cap full of fuel, it would fire up after a few turns and start, after a while of using this technique, it got the fuel and i rev'd the engine, but it just would not start. A firend was towing me and it still would not start in gear, eventually the battery has now ran out bacuse i tried it some many times.

(also very squeeky fan belt by the way, which im told has just been replaced, looks new)

Im really hoping someone knows exactly what the problem could be, ive had the car less than a month :(

Thank you

In tank fuel pumps are cooled and lubricated by the fuel in the tank. When you run a car out of gas or very low, it pumps a lot of air through the pump which overheats it and causes some severe wear and many times, failure when they cool off.
You will need to use a fuel pressure gauge to verify this

What model year is this? I don't think you have a carb - that's a throttle body you are pouring fuel into.

Not the point - it lacks fuel now loose belt you've run down the battery. Do as suggested as check for fuel pressure with the battery charged back up with a charger.

Don't keep trying when it doesn't start as you'll just add a starter to the fix.

Belt probably stretched even if new many if not self adjusted require tightening up again after some use,
