Rad/Cooliant Question Sign In

Hello, Thanks alot for the help in advance...
There was water being put into my rad for a month or so. It had a leak and i diddnt want cooliant dropping on the ground.. I started to put cooliant in it as the car still leaked afterwards... I put a jug of cooliant in the rad and fixed the leak. If i do a rad flush and add more -47 cooliant into the car will it be safe for winter? i hear there will be a remainder of water in the engine block. Is this true? and do you think if i do a rad flush myself it will be fine for winter? Once again. Thankyou so much....

The first thing you have to do is pressure test the cooling system and resolve any leaks or other underlying problems causing overheating. Then you will have to drain and add sufficient coolant for the protection that you need. They make testers to test what the freeze point is but you have to run the car thoroughly before testing it.
