I have a 2001 Chrysler Limited Edition PT Cruiser. I've never had trouble with my car until we've had this horrible winter, since about a month ago, my car shakes pretty bad at start up, but only in very cold weather, usually it always smooths out if you let it run. In the very cold weather it also will start shaking when you idle, and eventually stall. The rpm drops when this happens, and the lights dim. II've already had a recent oil change, the spark plugs changed, and the idle valve cleaned. The check engine light is also on. I think it is the battery but my father swears he replaced it not too long ago. I cant afford to have someone check it out, any ideas of what it could be?

Weather extremes frequently bring out the lurking problems. Get the codes read for FREE, write down the #s and post them. Many parts outlets do that for free. Same places frequently test batteries and more also.
From there decide what you don't think you can afford to fix. Suks but if you can't even afford a diagnosis how are you going to fix it? Keep on driving this stalling and w problems mentioned you are probably turning affordable fixes into thousand$ and really be up the creek without a paddle,
