2008 Prius sometimes when we push the power button the dash lights do not come on. The lights for seatbelts comes on and the screen for climate and mpg comes on but not the mph or gas guage in that window and it will stay off for days then comes on.What do we have going on. Thanks

Re: Prius Sign In

Intermittent things of the sort on anything are going to be a pest to find and know it's fixed.

? Does anything you notice cause this to come back or go out - like temperature changes or bumps while driving?

If this doesn't change behavior with some wiggle test on wiring known common to both of the things that don't display it's going to be a tough chase down for what is possibly the cause and you just know if take this in to a tech specializing in just this car the dang thing is going to work.

Unless and someone here may know or not that there is a TSB = "Technical Service Bulletin" on such a thing for this problem already known.

Tough call on this,

T

Re: Prius Sign In

I wouldn't suggest poking around in there too much. There are points in that car that carry enough voltage to kill you instantly.

Re: Prius Sign In

You were asked for the VIN = Vehicle Identification Number by Discretesignals. Just maybe he can find something if he asked for it,

Re: Prius Sign In

I remember reading something about Toyota extending the warranty on the instrument cluster. You might want to call your local Toyota dealer and ask. Really need the VIN to see if this TSB actually applies or not. Obviously this repair isn't DIY unless you have the appropriate scan tool and service information.

Applicability

Introduction
Some 2004-2009 model year Prius vehicles may experience an intermittent condition where the combination meter display will not illuminate in cold weather conditions. An updated combination meter ECU is now available to correct this condition.

In some instances while the vehicle is in park mode, the vehicle may not "ready off" by pressing the power switch. In this case the vehicle can achieve "ready off" by pushing and holding the power switch for more than 3 seconds.

Note

^ The combination meter computer contains the vehicle odometer memory. This component should be ordered directly from the vendor (Yazaki) with the correct mileage programmed.

Please refer to PANT Bulletin G107-29: Digital Odometer Replacement Program Expansion, for additional information.

Repair Procedure

1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

2. Remove the combination meter assembly.

Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS) applicable model and model year Repair Manual:

^ 2004 / 2005 Prius:
Vehicle Interior-Instrument Panel/meter - "Combination Meter Assy: Overhaul"
