Power antenna won't go up. Sign In

I have a 1990 Chry Imperial, use it for a winter car. It was parked all summer and when I started it up this winter, the antenna won't go up. It worked good before I parked it for the summer. I can't see the antenna motor under the hood, is it under my dash or inside the fender well? Second, I press the heat settings and I can't get the heater to blow out the dash vents or on the floor, only blows out the windshield vents, any ideas? Everything worked good till I parked it for a year.

I shouldn't admit it but I'm pretty good with duct tape and coat hanger repair!!

The vents are almost certainly because of a vacuum leak to power the flaps that direct the air flow. Home base is defrost so that should be easy and the fault usually under the hood. You can patch it with hose and imagination at that will be fine.

The antennae is a pill and a separate problem. If you can pull the sucker up and lock it there. You can undo most of them and just stuff them down in the fender and splice in a new cheap fixed antennae. Radio Shack or similar could have some stuff for the antennae, Smile, Tom

The radio truns on when the antenna goes up and shuts off when the antenna goes downs. I pulled the antenna up, but the radio still won't go on. I think the motor is just stuck from sitting all year. How do you get at the motor? It looks like its right inside the fender. Do I have to remove the whole fender?

The radio should at least hiss without the antennae. I know many GM cars put the antennae up and down when the radio was turned on or car on and off. This serves to wear them out real fast as most folks would just leave them up.

The thing with that may be no power to radio or antennae which may be connected.

If you have a tape or CD player it should work or there is a power problem which could be the whole radio has some attitude in it?? T

I found the antenna moter. The bracket that holds the motor onto the fender well is rusted off. I was wondering if that bracket acted as a ground for the antenna motor. Going to run a new ground to the motor and see what happens.

You can test that out with alligator clips for ground before you need hair replacement therapy for the job! T
