Passed MOT with new rear tyres - now got problems straight away! Sign In

I have a Renault Clio Campus Sport, 1.2. 2006 model.

It was MOT'd yesterday and failed on the two rear tyres. I took it away to have them replaced, which was done the same day.

I drove the car to work today, and at first did not notice a problem. As soon as I got to the motorway and hit 55-60mph the car started to wobble, almost as if it would tip, or lift off the road! It was quite scary, it was as if the car was driving on ice.

I slowed down to 50, and this helped a lot. Every time I tried to increase speed the same thing happened. It was still pulling/wobbling at lower speeds, but not to the same level as at high speeds.

I figured the first port of call would be to check the tyre pressures, which I did this evening on the way home. 3 of the tyres were fine, one rear tyre was at 6!! Should be 26 for my car! I put the air in, and drove off hoping that this was the cause. But no, it isn't. Exactly the same problem on the way home.

Is this just a coincidence, or has it been caused by the new tyres?

I don't know if this has any relevance to the above - but another problem which surfaced the day before the MOT was the gauge that shows engine temp dropped to 0, and the car started to judder when I took my foot off the accelerator. The level increased within a couple of miles, and it resolved. It did it again on the way home today. Checked coolant level and this was on minimum, so I have topped that up.

I'm going to ring the tyre fitter in the morning, and take it to a garage to have the other problems looked at, and the tracking done, but I wondered if anyone can shed any light, or guide me in the right direction on this please. I'm praying this won't be expensive!

It does not take a rocket scientest to figure what needs to be done . It was ok before tyres and hardly driveable after .Quit driving the bloody thing till you have it inspected by a mechanic/ installer.

check the lug nut torque. Loose tire can scare the hell out of you and for good reason. If the nuts were loose you have a legit gripe with the shop and they should relace the rims/studs free of charge if damage occured to them. Don't drive it to anywhere if you haven't checked that first, you won't get there to complain if you die in the crash first. Its that serious. But realize everyone has bad days and makes a dumb mistake. If they are indeed at fault and you can confirm that give them a chance to rectify it. I'm sure they will bend over backwards in the future for you if you let them fix what may be their mistake. Perhaps it wasn't and other issues are making themselves apparent now. Give the benefit of the doubt and work with them to find out what has happened and resolve it without incident. Let us know what you find and what resolution comes of it.
