Year of vehicle 1999
Make of vehicle Ford

Model of vehicle Taurus
Engine size 3.0
Mileage 165,000

Both my back calipers are locked up and needs to be completely replaced. I'm having a hard time figuring out how to get the parking break cable out of the caliper. I've tried using different size c-clamps to compress the spring to be able the pull the cable out, but no matter where I put the c-clamp it always seems to be in the way. So I'm looking for any suggestions or tips. Is there a way to get more slack on the parking break cable? Is there another tool to compress the spring so it is not in the way? I have looked everywhere online and no one seems to replace the caliper or they are replacing it in drum breaks and I have disk breaks.

Thanks in advance for any help

Remove the bolt from the cable mounting bracket on the caliper and then you can move the whole cable.

If a spring to bracket problem and those can be there's a tool to compress that spring to remove the end out of it's place,

I just did this job on the same year same car.
Theres a bolt that one end of the spring hooks onto, remove that bolt and the spring will come off. USE EXTREME CATION the spring has alot of tension on it and could fly off and hit you.
I Put good gloves on and held the spring with one hand while i undid the bolt so it would not fly off and hit something or someone.

You'll get it!

NO, DO NOT REMOVE THAT SPRING! That lever is spring loaded and once that nut is removed, the inside mechanism can come apart.

The brake cable has an anchor. If you removed the anchor bolt, you will be able to move the cable around to get it off the lever.

I was thinking of a 10mm cable spring NOT the one ON the caliper which shouldn't be touched as HT said!

Mr Scotty, You need to do more reading on this forum and less giving of advice.

The large spring should NOT be removed.
