P/S Hard to turn Sign In

1992 Lexus SC 400, 4.0 L 52,648 miles
Power steering hard to turn after initial startup.. Sometimes easier to turn when accelerating..

Smile Purchased vehicle at a great price even though had a couple of issues.. One of them being power steering leaking..
P/S was leaking at the pump,, rack,, and pressure hose from pump to rack..
Replaced pump,, rack,, pressure hose,, and return hoses from resevoir,, flushed and cleaned resevoir,, and flushed all other hoses on system..
Installed components on car and bled system,, steering was a little hard initially and progressively got worse as I drove it for about 20 miles..Mad
Replaced pump a second time as i couldnt see the fluid flowing thru resevoir as I would have thought I should.. Bled system again and now it is worse than the initial pump I replaced.. Pulled pressure valve to see if there was any blockage,, and there was none..
So now i dont know if should attach pressure fitting to line to check if I have any pressure or flush system again.. Could it be that im purchasing bad pumps or should I check other components.. I wouldnt think that my luck is bad as it seems by getting to pumps that are defective..Anyways I have no leaks now but no power assist in the steering...Unimpressed
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.. I have already put some money I thought well spent on a nice car that I wouldnt think would be such a nightmare to repair.. Thanks and have a great day...

Re: P/S Hard to turn Sign In

Put a pressure gauge on the pressure line and see what you get. Also try disconnecting the return line and routing a hose into a bucket so it doesn't go everywhere. If it works when the return line is off you have a defective return line. Dud parts happen. Unfortunately, if you have a clear return line and good pressure to the rack you have a bad steering box. Good luck

Smile Thanks for the suggestion which I tried and ended up putting a P/S pump on again... I would say the third time is the magic number... Replaced pump and is working great... Thanks for the help.....
