Overheating - Suddenly

Thanks in advance for any help.
2001 Nissan Sentra
1.8L 4cyl
235,000 km's
Today while driving the engine overheated, when to the high range of the gauge and I noticed a high pitched noise from the passenger side of the engine compartment.
It overheats worse with the AC on. I replaced the thermostat with no luck. We are concerned there's air in the system, we used the bleeder bolt, we tried heating it up with the cap off, squeezing the upper and lower rad hoses etc.
What we noticed is the upper rad hose is hot, lower rad hose is cold. One hose to the heater core is hot, other hose is cold. We can confirm the thermostat is open because when I pull of the hose fluid pours out of the engine so I know the thermostat is open.
There is no plume of white smoke from the exhaust whatsoever. When the engine gets hot it burps out huge glugs of coolant when the rad cap is off.
Is it the water pump or an air bubble trapped? Something else?

Odds are very good that you have a blown head gasket . .What that actually means is you have caused the head to warp and coolant to go into cylinders. You need a compression test to confirm this.
