Oil on air filter Sign In

I have a 2002 Ford F-150 Harley Davidson Edition with the 5.4 liter supercharged engine. The vehicle has 53000 miles on it. I have owned this truck since it was new and have consistently kept it properly maintained. During the last routine maintenance I noticed some oil on the intake (fresh air) side of the air filter. Any ideas as to what might be causing this? Other than this issue the vehicle runs flawlessly.

I'd start with the basics and make sure the PCV system is working properly. If you haven't changed the pcv valve might not be a bad idea to pop a new one in...........

Sidom,
Thanks for the input. I'll replace the PCV immediately.

Re: Oil on air filter Sign In

Sidom, thanks again for your answer to my oil filter situation. While checking the PCV valve I noticed that the hose leading from it to the place it connects to the air intake for the supercharger was loose. I reattached the hose as best I could but it seems that there should be a more positive way that the hose connects. The end of the hose has an expanded end much like a compression fitting. Does not seem like a good design, but it is what it is. I'll just have to keep an eye on it. Thanks!

Re: Oil on air filter Sign In

Thats actually a problem on those, the hose gets contaminated, soft and then fits loose. Eventually it get sucked in and creates a vacuum leak and because of the wonderful design it's next to impossible to get any other type of pcv hose to work so you have to get the replacement from the dealer....

If it's soft now it might be a good idea to replace it now before it splits and gives you a rough idle
