1995 Subaru Impeza 1.8L 69,000km.

Hey guys,

Bought this car a year ago and had a premechanical check, a service and a blue slip check for Australian rego (transfering car interstate) since I bought it and never had an issue. However, after the blue slip check in mid November the car had occassional trouble starting (once a month), especially after being driven for more than 10 minutes. After I noticed that issue I changed the spark plugs and it was fine for a while until I trucked the car up to Alice Springs on December 18th. Since being there for 1 month it had constant issues starting so I didn't drive it from xmas until today to take it to the mechanics, I assume the 40 C + weather had a role in that.

Went to the mechanics and the oil was overfilled by 2 Litres and he said that would be the issue and could have caused a lot of damage.

It has run fine this afternoon, has no oil leaks and didn't smoke or anything when it had too much oil, it did overheat once but not majorly and thats when I stopped driving it. The car has probably done 200 - 300km since the mechanics when I think the oil was overfilled with many short <10km trips and one 150km trip (to put the car on the truck to transport it to Alice).

I know the issues with overfilling but was wondering if there will be any tell tale signs that would indicate serious damage is done? Or have I dodged a bullet since there are no unusual noises, no leaks and seems to be running smoothly?

On another note, seriously starting to consider doing these things myself instead of trying to do the right thing and get a professional to do it. Had a few issues with many different mechanics over the years.
