Odd issue with car after it was sitting for a week! Sign In

So recently I was having an issue with my 2004 Tracker I noticed it was low on coolant so I added coolant to it. After I added the coolant I drove it for one day and then left it idle for about a week. After leaving it idle for about a week I decided to drive it and while it was still warming up I noticed it was acting odd when driving. It seemed to not want to rev and shift normally. It was as if it was going through the ECU learning process again. Once it got up to temperature it ran just fine and have not had any issues since. Any ideas? Could adding coolant of caused the ECU to act strangely? Also does leaving it idle for a week affect the ECU adaptation memory? It doesn't seem like anything is wrong with the battery it is 3 years old but never had to jump it or anything like that.

No, adding coolant will not effect the ECU but there are places that coolant could have gone that can cause driveability issues. That should be your first priority, to find out where the coolant is going by pressure testing the system.

No, leaving it idle for a week will have no effect on the ECU if the battery remains charged.

It just seems like it never had the proper amount of coolant in the first place.

It just seemed to be driving really odd before it warmed up.

Do you seriously think you are going to get an accurate diagnosis by going to a forum and saying "My car is running odd"?

Let me consult my diagnostic tools
