No start help! Sign In

Yo! I have an 84 Chevy 350 in a Grumman Olsen food truck. I went to start it this morning and I had to jump it... It started and then died. I went and charged the battery, replaced it.. Now it won't even turn over.. Here's the kicker. I tried to jump the solenoid and it spun but didn't engage.. Where do I start? Ignition? Starter? Solenoid? Please help! It's how I make my living!

Let me also state that it's normal for the truck to die once before it builds enough pressure to stay idling.. I'm thinking a wire from the lock and tumbler to the starter isn't connected properly?? It still baffles me that when I jumped the solenoid, the starter spun but the engine didn't turn over.

You probably jumped the wrong terminals.

That very we'll may be... But it won't start with the key now. It's doing nothing when key turns to start... Is there any way to test that 12v is coming from the battery, to the ignition and down to the little post?

Sure there is if you know how to follow a wiring diagram.

Here is the diagram from a C2500 with a 5.7 carb. I don't know if yours was made the same.

complete diagram
