Nissan Rim on 09 Honda accord Sign In

I wanted a real spare for the 2009 accord , I found 16" nissan rims ,( as I remember ) that have the same bolt pattern as the honda and the rim did fit on the rear clearing the caliper . The inside was very similar . I went to the honda dealer because we wanted the signal valve stem to make things official . The service writer said that the valve stem make leak if it was not a honda rim and there where no refunds . So I asked if a regular valve stem could be used and he said he wouldn't use the nissan rim because there may be a problem . I asked like what ? He said " the unknown " Can't I just get the tire mounted so that we have an actual tire instead of a donut for any trips we take ? I did ask about getting a honda rim before I bought the other ones but the dealer wanted the core , I said there ain't no core , I just want a spare rim . They wouldn't sell one without the core . What do you guys think about all this ?

Typical dealer bullSh!t.
He has no idea about anything concerning anything to do with Nissan rims so they automatically go to the default answer, OEM only.

You don't need the dealer to get a TPMS sensor. There are a lot of universal ones out there. There are only 2 different frequencies used for all makes.

Just make sure you try this wheel on the front also. The front calipers can be much larger.

O.K. Thanks , the local tire shop can probably do it , I just don't want a light on the dash for my wife to complain about with only 3 signals from the tires or what ever . Too much tech IMO .

I don't know if your car is programmed to monitor 5 tires. It may not. For the short period a spare would be on, I wouldn't worry about TPMS.

Hi Doc!

Are you just looking for a REAL size tire for a spare? This for a "family" owned vehicle (wife) such that there's less of a time limit for the "fake" type spares?

Try the dang thing you just might be surprised that it will (most do IMO) behave quite well AND saves the space as intended if you care at all about that.

HT right on to say check anything is "dished" to clear any caliper front OR rear is/was an issue dates back to use of the first disc brakes used at all had to clear calipers where drums didn't at all.

It's just trivia now but could put many rims on backwards it didn't matter! Yes I remember that! Joy of having valve stem on the inside - really and do that on purpose for some!

Re: Nissan Rim on 09 Honda accord Sign In

I tried the rim on the front and it fit just fine . I took it to the tire shop and told him I wanted the tire & rim in the trunk mounted and balanced with a tpms valve stem that he would provide . He needed the vehicle to program it in .. Apparently you can only have the 4 sensors so for some reason this guy takes the rear passenger off the car , breaks it down , takes the tpms valve and puts it in the rim/tire that was in the trunk and mounts that on the car . He tried to call me but my trac phone missed the call . I got there and they mounted the tire with a reg. valve stem for the spare in the trunk . Oh yeah and the car with the new battery wouldn't start , we tried jumping it . It's in the drive way being charged .

Yes, I advised you of that earlier. Most cars can't track 5 sensors.

I figured the guy would know . The tires are mounted with the spare in the trunk , they don't match but they look good . Thanks .
