New Clutch, New Gearbox and STILL having gear problems. Please help! Sign In

Please help!
I have a Peugeot 106 V reg with low milage (50,000), and after about 30 minutes into long journeys, or when its very hot outside, my car just decides not to go into gear when I try and change up / down whist moving. It then makes a screeching sound when I put it into reverse, just after it refuses to go into any other gear. I then have to leave it for about 10 minutes before it will go into gear again. I took it to a garage, and they replaced the clutch, gear rods and pretty much all of the gear box and had to whole thing apart, and put the problem down to extensive rust. I have just got it back from the garage, did a 30 minute journey and it happened again! Don't want to take it back to the garage, as they will just replace something else and leave me with another costly bill. Any ideas as to what this could be?!?

Well sounds I would take it back since you just had it fixed. There should be some sort of warrenty.

Hmm this is quite a hard situation to explain... but;
-The work done was paid for by the used car "Warrenty" as I have had the car for just under 6 months. But a huge fuss and trading standards theats had to be made in order for that to come through. (The warrenty has now run out)
-The work done at the garage definately needed doing anyway, and I am lucky that I took it in when I did, as apparently those parts were ready to give in...could have been very bad indeed.
-But because the original fault still isnt fixed, it must be something else altogether, and I highly doubt I will be able dodge that bill.

So... if its something cheap I will get it fixed, no problem. But I'm worried that it could be the beginnings of something much more severe, in which case I need to get rid of it asap. Just dropping it off at the garage whilst they replace other rusted expensive parts in a 'process of elimination method' to fix the mystery fault means that I will be without the car in a rural area for another 2 weeks, and the labour bill alone will far exceed the part exchange value of the car.

But of course, I dont have a clue. So if anyone has any idea at all as to what it MIGHT be, (even if its my driving!) then that would be extreemly helpful, as I'm not sure i'm ready to give up on it just yet :(

My guess on this is probably it's an hydraulic clutch and either it's master cylinder or receiving slave cylinder is NOT full disengaging clutch and noise would be severe going into non synchronize reverse and hard to shift in other gears.

Don't know this car and it may not have the hydraulic clutch linkage but if it does make sure it's reservoir is full (usually DOT brake fluid but check) and if not find the leak.

If that - and car is ok otherwise it would be worth fixing vs swapping out at a loss IMO. If straining to shift as said you aren't helping it by waiting - that would damage trans,
