Need info about MK 4 Golf, Jetta, Passat EngineMK 4 Golf, Jetta, Passat 2.8 Liter 16 Valve VR6 Engine Assembly - Seized Sign In

Hi, on Ebay, I am trying to sell my son's MK 4 Golf, Jetta, Passat 2.8 Liter 16 Valve VR6 Engine Assembly. The engine was altered by a car junky who owned the car before my son. Water got up into the engine and caused it to seize.
I would love to find out:
1. approximate weight and dimensions so I prospective buyer would be able to get a fairly accurate idea of the shipping cost.
2. Fair Price to start the auction and a Buy It Now Price
3. ANY info that a prospective buyer would be attracted to regarding this type of engine, that would be WONDERFUL. I certainly don't know anything about engines.

Thanks sooo much for any help you can give me!!!
.
This is info I have listed:
•Mileage: approximately 100,000
•Engine Code: AFP
•Compatible with: MK 4 GTI, Jetta, Passat, 99-03 VR6'S
It is solely the buyers responsibility to determine compatibility with their vehicle
•This genuine VW part is in good used condition but is seized. (It is a good project engine because it just has seized pistons and rings.)

•Local pick-up possible, or Buyer pays shipping. Email to discuss shipping arrangements.

Seized pistons and rings. Great to bore out and add new pistons and rings.
"This Engine Block was pulled from a 2001 Volkswagen GTI VR6. The Head is in great shape. Short block has pistons seized. Everything else is there except the oil pan Needs pistons and rings. Cams are in great shape.his Engine Block was pulled from a 2001 Volkswagen GTI VR6. The Head is in great shape. Short block has pistons seized. It's been altered so that kills it's value alone.

Just how did water get ingested? If flooded (high water) and started with plugs in IMO whole engine is scrap or could be AND if other water damage car is just body parts.

Sounds like you just want to sell the engine with really no actual knowledge of what may be good still. If out of car now what is the situation of where it is and how stored if you do think anything is saleable? If just left outside that alone if things apart and water in it makes it just dead metal.

I can't tell what about it and suggest unless you are far away from any major area to just call a local salvage yard. Depending on where it may cost you or get a few bucks to come get it,

Outside dimensions? That can be measured with a tape measure.

The weight can be found at a weight station. Look in your local phone book. Weigh a truck without and with the engine in the bed. Subtract the two and you have the approximate weight of the engine assembly.

Call some of the local salvage yards in your area and ask them if they have VW 2.8L laying around and how much one would cost. Deduct from the price what you assume it would cost to fix the problem and that will give you a good baseline what it is worth.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I'm not really into AM high perf so as far as the engine goes, unless it's something that builders are looking for, since it's seized there really won't be much value to it..

One thing I will mention just in case you don't sell a lot on ebay. I just read your ad and unless you've actually gone thru this engine and verified the stuff you are listing thats "good" and in "great shape", you are really setting yourself up for one big charge back....especially if you are using Paypal...
You would be surprised what else can go south when an engine seizes or some of that stuff might not of been in such great shape to begin with....

Unless you got something special, I would just try to get rid of it locally and avoid the possible headaches...... If it is worth something, stick with the ad but remove all the "fluff" that you haven't actually checked out and know to be true or this one will comeback to bite you......
