Hi juat wanted to get some thoughts about what could be going on with my car. It is 2000 pontiac grand prix 2220k miles 3.7L engine. Anyways while driving car will kind of jump, lose rpms, gas pedal becomes non responsive, and therr is a burning smell. Sometimes i am able to get it going again but most commonly have to pull off and turn the car off and restart. It does not do this all the time but it is frequent enough. Engine has been cleaned out within last 12 months due to antifreeze getting in it.

220,000 miles, note that isn't near low miles.

Antifreeze where? Cleaned off with what or inside with oil when that happened? I steadfastly do not agree with cleaning a whole engine on outside with anything involving water or worse a solvent. If not a problem right away it almost always causes something plus miles up there suggest you get an engine full diagnosis to know everything it would need to be dependable as you may have a list of things do decide on to either go for it or move on for another unless vehicle as a whole is remarkable otherwise this could be costly for what it could be worth,

Arrgh? What to do? Yes you can rent a fuel pressure gauge and see if it's within specs and full code reading posting #s. At the miles I just wonder if even valve timing is already an issue.

There of lot of just IMO about it with the miles to know the overall engine condition before you spend too much. No clear history likely - right?
Hey - I've had or been around vehicles up to those miles and more but knew them from new with just incredible care and full history. That's why my default is suggesting paying for an hour or a little more to see what you are in for with this to make some choices. I doubt this will be a one item one time fix and drive on without surprises based on miles alone and not knowing whether you did everything or paid for it lose your shirt vs changing out is hard to know when is right per car and owner's needs both.

A car just can't have that many miles without things lurking is my problem,

It probably got coolant in the crankcase from the lower intake manifold gaskets leaking. Common issue.

Check engine light on? If so, what are the trouble code numbers?

Maybe you should contact your mechanic since you have no automotive repair experience.
