My car will not take gas anymore..?

1977 Buick Regal Not quite sure.. I am not sure of the engine size. I can find out if it's necessary for my problem. I've had the car for about two months now. About a week ago it stopped taking gas. If I try to put gas in, it'll just come back out of the gas pipe. My gas gauge is broke, but I am fairly sure it's not full. Anyway, I've tried adding the gas really slow, but it'll still come out after I've put a little bit in. Again, I am fairly sure it's not full. I've tried putting gas in at three different stations now and four or five different pumps. At first the handle on the gas gun would just stop, but I was told to pull the rubber piece back and put the gas in. That works fine now, but it'll still come out the gas pipe of my car if I hold the handle of the gun for more than a few seconds. Is there any other reasons than it being full? My Dad, Grandpa and friends have said it's full, but I do not think so. I've got a five gallon gas tank in my trunk and pretty much decided not to put gas in it and wait for it to run out. Anyway, help is very much appreciated! Thank you.

Imthedan; There is a vent hose connected to the filler neck. If this hose gets pinched or plugged, for whatever reason, that can cause your problem. Have the filler neck and vent hose checked. Easy to do with the car on a lift and the rear tire off. Loren SW Washington

I saw this problem recently on a vehicle that had been sugured. The sugar blocks the small neck at the entrance to the tank. If this is the case, the problem can be cured by dropping the tank and cleaning out the sugar. It will NOT get into the gas line nor into the engine. Sugar will NOT disolve in gas nor will it get past the filter in the tank.

Say WHAT? Sugar will not disolve in gas. It's simple enough to prove in your garage and/or talk to a chemist. I've cleaned out more than one or two, and it never gets past the filter in the tank. But it will clog up the filler line preventing filling the tank.

There are probably several people who "don't like me", but so far no one has sugared any of MY cars. If I ever tell someone to "go to Hell", I try to make'em look forward to the trip. My expreience in sugared cars: In the last two years, a neighbor involved in a triangle and a friend in a business which doesn't generate a lot of goodwill. I helped clean both tanks, and there was no damage other than in the tanks.
