I have a 2000 Mazda miata mr 6. a few months ago my wife called and said her car was acting funny and so she took it to our mechanic. He kept it for 2 months. It was having fuel problems. He changed everything on it that he thought would fix it. Now I never drove it at this time to feel what was wrong.After 2 months we went and got it to take it to a Mazda dealer for another opinion and to have it checked.They didnt help either they wanted to check what the first mechanic had checked. I drove it approximately 45 miles to the closest dealer and I saw nothing wrong except when you first gave it gas it choked back and hesitated like it wasnt getting gas right.Once you were going you did'nt feel anything wrong only when you first started off was when it heitated.So any ideas. Now my first mechanic has been around a long time and this is the first time he has run into this problem. he says he has put every part he know except some oxygen sensor manifold that could not be returned after once being used. What he appears to be doing is just throwing parts at it. As you have found out, nothing gets fixed that way and it gets real expensive. If the problem is present at all times, then it can be diagnosed by a knowledgable tech which your guy is not. The dealer could find the problem but don't expect them to take anyone's word on testing. No tech will do that. they will perform their own tests and if the problem is present and they know what they are doing, the problem will be found.

Im not interested in if he is competent or not I wanted to know if anyone has run into this problem?

We don't diagnose from "past history" or by throwing parts at it like a dartboard until something sticks.
We use systematic diagnostic techniques which is the way you car should have been diagnosed. If your mechanic had a clue what he was doing, you wouldn't be here asking for help.

sandiwood; To which problem are you referring? Keeping your car for two months and not figuring out what's wrong after throwing parts at it? Or, the hesitation?
The hesitation can be caused by numerous things and will require some diagnostics to find the cause. Either of these can be frustrating. That is understandable. But, it doesn't change the facts. Someone (doesn't have to be the dealer) with the knowledge and equipment should be able to figure out what's going on. Just 'throwing parts' at a car is not acceptable. And, it's expensive now days. With today's technology, competance should be your number one concern.

I know thats a fact but he has been in business a while and I thought he would have found it by diagnostics but undoubtable it didnt work.

I think I see what you are looking for and to answer you question. The problem you are describing doesn't have any specific pattern failures for a Mazda that I'm aware of.
The problem here is there is any number of systems that could cause that problem. If you've had a good relationship with your guy then I don't really see any reason to switch now but for this particular problem a different shop may be in order. A couple of shop locator sites you can try would be ase.com or iatn.net Some problems can be a little more difficult to track down than other ones. A shop that is using different diagnostic equipment & routines may be able to shed a little bit of light on the problem looking at it from a different angle........
