An orange light has appeared on my Toyota Corona 1989 2.0L dashboard. Any ideas what it means?

I'm not sure where you are located but they have sold or made a Corona in the US since '82

Have you looked in your owners manual?

Clearly I'm not in the US then, but I thought this may be a generic warning light which may occur on many models

I don't have the manual and I've checked a few books at the library but found nothing about dashboard warning lights.

Re: MANU light on dashboard Sign In

Its not really a warning lamp just an indicator lamp you have manu mode activated.

Look hard enough and you'll find the answer:

Quote
MANU MODE

Fairly straight forward, this mode HOLDS your gear and will not release the gear until this mode is off.

For example, you are travelling along at 60kmh or just over 35mph and you are driving with O/D set to off (3rd gear), if you decide to press MANU it will hold 3rd gear just like a manual car holding its gear and not drop the RPM unlike normal auto driving conditions when you release the gas.

This mode should only be used if you need to maintain a gear during hillclimbs or high-speed overtakes.

Excellent that makes sense and explains why the car has been sluggish when setting off. Found the button and turned it off. My 2 year old son must have pressed it, I never knew it was even there. Many thanks, you've saved me lots of frustration. Cheers
