Sign In My car is a 1996 Olds Achieva 4 cyl FWD. is making a thumping noise when I start from a standstill. The less gas I give it it is not as loud. After going it smooths out. No clicking sounds from turning, just the loud thumping sound when you put some gas to it. Can you help? Sign In Have you inspected the engine mounts? A broken engine mount can cause thumping noises on take off. Sign In Top mount looks OK. Took it to a mechanic and the first thing he said was that he will check the lower engine mount. I hope that is all it is. I will let you know. He changed both engine mounts and a tranny mount. Now the car is smooth and tight again with no noise no matter how much you press the pedal. Thanks again!!
