Today I went over to kwik fit to replace my near side front only to be told that the locking wheel nut had been tightened so much that they were not prepared to carry on with the work as they said that theres a good chance of the locking wheel nut being disformed and therefore unable to remove the rest oif the wheels. If I was to go to the garage that fitted the tyres, are they responsable and if so is the work to remove wheel chargable? But too much time and the chance of other people handling the car has gone by. Somebody somewhere is going to have to take the lock off .And who ever does is not going to "eat it". Most shops have a commercial lock nut removal kit . Unfortunetly it beats the lock up pretty good.Better to bite the bullet BEFORE you have a flat on the highway and have to toss in a tow bill to boot.BTW it would be a wise thing to have the other wheels checked at this time. Your post didn't say what kind of car or rims you have, but I get cars all the time with factory rims that have a locknut on each rim and they haven't got the lock tool. Unlike a normal nut, they get torn up easily when too tight. Like re-tired said, we have the sockets that will get it off but the nut is usually if not always rendered useless after using them. They are more a hassle for you than a good thief! The high end Snap-On kit can remove those faster than you can find your tire iron so determined thieves will have them and be gone.
