Leaking gasoline question Sign In

I just picked up my car frontshop last night where I had them replace the fuel pump on my 1999 dodge grand caravan- it has a 3.3 litre engine. They also replace a fuel line under the car ( someone has put a rubber hose on it, and they replaced it with plastic. I ran around trown a bit and it seemed ok. then i got fuel- the pump put in over 20 gallons and my tank, I believe is 17 gal. At my next stop I realised the tank was leaking gas badly (what looks like gallons). It still shows an almost full tank. My garage is closed til after Christmas. My husbands thoughts are that the gas stations pump was broken and overfilled the tank causing it to drain through the fill tube, but he's doesn't have qa lot of mechanical experience. Could it be this or could the fuel pump be installed wrong, or something else? Any help is very much appreciated.

That's a bit of too much coincidence. I would highly suspect that they messed something up. I would have it towed back to them and make them eat the tow.

Hard to say. I would check and see if the filler tube attatched to the fuel tanks is tight. Just follow the pipe from the bottom of your fuel filler pipe. There will be a rubber hose attached between it and the gas tank. Rubber hose will seal with a basic hose clamp. May have been left loose. Good luck

Thanks so much for the replies guys- I will leave it at the shop for them to check out that hose. Its really nice to have some idea of what it might be ahead of time. Thanks again!

To replace the fuel pump they must pull the tank down. It sound like they did't put the hoses back on right. Have the van towed back to the repair shop and get it fix. Then go and find another shop to have your van worked on.

Wow, that's pretty harsh since no one knows what the problem is right now or if it is even related to the repairs made....

I agree that it seems like it would be related to job but even if it is, one problem is no reason to fire a shop if the op was happy with the service and prices given so far. Now if there is a pattern of mistakes made then finding another shop might be in order.....

Thanks, guys for the help. I did take it back to the garage-they have always been very good so I am sure it was a mistake and they will correct it. Merry Christmas all!
