Leaking Fluid?? Sign In

Can anyone tell me what me be leaking out of my car? Today I noticed a small area on the driveway that had leaked from under my car. Looked clearish, but when I got home and looked again after some light rain the puddle looked the color of coffee with milk. I checked the oil level and it was fine - any ideas what it might be? No dashboard lights have come on either.

I can't tell from a web site but it sounds like engine oil. Keep a couple in your trunk for now. For the two bucks you may save your engine!! - T

Thanks Tom for the help - you were right on. Took the car to a mechanic today and he said it is oil and the car needs a new oil pan, gasket, and valve cover gasket - to the tune of about $600. Also said when they do that work that they also, as a matter of habit, replace the timing belt, water pump and front main seal??? Another $500. Does this estimate sound right?

Those prices are ok and the suggestion of water pump and timeing belt are good ideas. I can't find what kind of car this is in the posts?? None the less this work is cheap on parts and high on labor. You can always get a second estimate but I think it will be close.

Labor rates here run close to and I charge $80 bucks - some $100!!!! Some places are half that. Ask for a PCV system check too. Good luck, let us know of a sucess story, - T

The car is my daughter's 1993 Chrysler Concorde so I'm just not sure when you decide to "throw in the towel". Car has new brakes, about 90,000 miles and runs well, but have to decide when enough is enough. Just noticed that you are in MetroWest Boston - I am just outside of Boston as well. Thanks for all your help.

I wouldn't trash a car over even some expensive work. Give me a call if you want - you said you were local to my area which is Marlborough.
