Isuzu. Ignition/Fuel problems Sign In

'97 Isuzu Hombre. Started happening when I put it in neutral while slowing down, the truck would shut off. Twice it has shut off while driving at constant speed. The truck did not lurch, I just happened to notice, while my foot was on the gas pedal, the speedometer was going down. I turned the truck off, and back on, and it was fine. Replaced the fuel lines and filter. Let it run for about 20 minutes, in neutral, and it shut off. Put two bottles of Techron, a fuel system cleaner that we were told is the same as GM uses, and ran it through. Gas tank is full. A few months ago we replaced the ignition, and it was fine. Not sure if the coil needs to be replaced, if this is an ignition problem, or a fuel system problem.

get the codes read and post the exact code numbers here. Not all codes will turn on your check engine light, so even if it isn't on check anyway. I'd hold off on any more additives and certainly don't put any more parts into it until you can determine what is dropping out when this happens. It can be a pain since its an intermittent but right now you don't know if its a fuel problem, spark problem, cam/ crank sensor problem or any one of a few dozen other things.

Unfortunatley, we used a code reader and got nothing. The spark plugs and wires have been replaced, as well as the fuel filter, fuel lines, and ignition. Techron was run through the engine. My dad is a mechanic and he's stumped. Just looking for some sort of opinion.

When it shut off did any of the warning lights light up in the dash?
