Is it worth $140 to buy a carbon monoxide detector for your car?

A residential home detector may be cheaper. Putting a residential one under a seat might be the right volume when it goes off, and it would require no installation costs. I've heard of people dying because of CO getting into the car (e.g., in a garage or when there is a great deal of snow on the ground). But the chances are quite low, so I don't know if it is worth it.

If you make a habit of sitting in running cars, driving cars with faulty exhaust systems or modifications to the floor of the car, then you would be a candidate for one.

Interesting thought to do that. Agree with Hammer depending on your habits and add I think the most common reason is a blocked tail pipe usually long warm ups or stranded in snow but also if it's underwater or mud if off road use especially anytime stuck,

Safety is never a bad idea...
But as you pointed out.....Most problems happened in closed in spaces, garages, stuck in the snow, etc...
I think as long as you are aware of that you should be good...
Although I get did see on the news some Police were having problem with the new Ford SUV.....
Ford is saying the problem is when they are getting outfitted for police equip on the local level and it isn't coming from the factory.. I have to admit...The police are the only ones I've heard of with this problem on the new Explorers...

That may not copy properly.
For me, notice a quick headache first for no other reason,
Unconsciousness after 2–3 breaths. Death in less than three minutes.

Would putting it under the seat prevent its detection capabilities? I mean, maybe the CO particles would fall on the seat and not into the detection component.

CO is an odorless, colorless gas not particles that collect. IDK - If you do this think of a spot it wouldn't be crushed or in your way and if of no use still use it for a building where a source is possible. About anything that burns something can make CO and breathing it absolutely can be deadly - too much or for too long,
