Shopping For a timing belt, asking if it for an "interference engine application"? What does this mean, I've never heard it before. Car is my daughters 2000 Hyundai Elantra. Thanks for any help

Yes you have an interference engine. That means that if the engine is out of time, the piston will hit the valves when the piston comes to the top of the stroke.
