Installing new crankshaft position sensor- 2007 Montana Van Sign In

2007 pontiac montana van 3.9L v6 - bad crankshaft position sensor. Needs replacing. Took to mechanic. Told that the location was almost impossible to change sensor. He said the recommended procedure might involve dismantling the transmission and manifold to get to the sensor. 3 or more hours. Is this true ? Where is the location of this sensor? Has anyone any experience with this ? Would sure appreciate any help at all. It's a $20 part and I'm having a hard time believing the install is so difficult to do. Thanks in advance !

I don't have any labor times on it but what has to be removed is the exhaust manifold. It's probably a couple hours but not the end of the world.
