Idle problem Sign In

Hello,

I need help figuring out what is wrong with my 2013 Corolla with 80k miles on it. It doesn't idle right anymore, since 15k miles ago. Whenever I am at a stop light, the car idles around 6000rpm which is enough to cause the car to vibrate. It idles normal when I turn the lights on. The idle is back at around 8000-9000 RPM which then the car would run smooth.

I have installed a new battery, air filter and cleaned the MAF and Throttle Body. I have used Lucas cleaner as well. Nothing seems to help. No codes at all.

Has anyone experienced something like this before? Please help me as I cannot trust my Corolla anymore. Thanks in advance.

Did you scan for codes? even if CEL is off.

Does the engine idle at 6000rpm or 600rpm? That 8000rpm+ has me asking if a digit to many in description.

Why did you install new battery, air filter and cleaned the MAF and Throttle Body any reason - a guess? or other issues

I scanned it and it was clear. I changed the battery because Autozone tested it and it was bad and leaking. The rest of the stuff seemed logical but did not help at all. Not sure what to do next.

knee jerk reaction - was the scanner you used yours? I am wondering if it was capable of reading all codes... a 200rpm swing should set a code
I would suspect a p0505 if more than 150 rpm from desired.

You do mean the idle RPM is 600rpm as those other numbers you posted are unlikely 8000rpm.

Re: Idle problem Sign In

I've use my own, a very basic scanner. The rpm is at 600 but goes back up to normal when the lights are on.
