ICM Repeat Failure Sign In

My 96 GMC Suburban began cutting out suddenly. I replaced the Ignition Control Module. Problem fixed. A few weeks later, the problem came back. I took the part back to (O'Reilly's) and got another ICM. Problem fixed. Two weeks later, now it's happening again. Bad parts or something else? Your advice is appreciated.

Replace the ignition coil along with the ICM this time.

I was wondering about that, Hammer. What is the logic--erratic fire?

Re: ICM Repeat Failure Sign In

The ICM operates the coil and the coil is drawing too much current through the module and overloading the module.

Also important to put a thin skin coat of thermal paste on the back of the module and to be sure the heat sink surface where the module mates is clean. Module will overheat if it can't conduct heat to the heat sink.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
