How to remove this Car Battery Clamp - Pics inside Sign In

Hi. I have a 2006 Ford Focus.

My car won't start. Blue fuzz around the battery terminals so I cleaned it off.

I want to remove the car clamp/cable so I can clean the inside with a wire brush?

But the thing is...this nut/bolt thing is totally confusing me. I got the top off but this bottom part-- I can't figure it out. Any advice on how to remove this??

Pics here:

As you can see the fat part is on the bottom, and it's right next to the battery so I can't pull it out...

Help please.

You have to spread the terminal open where the gap is. Then you'll probably be able to twist the terminal off the battery post. They also make a tool for lifting the terminal off batteries so you don't mangle up the terminal using pliers and screwdrivers.

You can try using something to pry the terminal open, so you can slide it off the post. That tool is called a battery terminal lift tool. You can also use it to remove windshield wiper arms that use a nut to hold the wiper arm on the wiper shaft.
