Honda wheels, rare yet scary noise (full description inside)

Hello all, I have a 2004 Honda City with 280,000+KM on it. While driving slowly in traffic, I took a left turn that led to a small empty road. When my car started to move faster (20KM/h) I heard a noise coming from the left (driver's) wheel for an instance. The noise itself is obscure. So here's my best description: It sounds as if the ground has become really harsh and full of rough stones; like someone tried to saw through the road's asphalt. This noise has been reoccurring on very rare occasions, but it's scary nevertheless. I took my car to a credible auto shop that checks these things for free and they found that my right (passenger) wheel bearing had gone bad. However, I really don't think it's the cause of the problem as the faulty bearing is on the opposite side of where the noise is coming from. Any ideas? Thanks :)

Bearing noises can be hard to pinpoint but they usually don't come and go as you describe. It's entirely possible you got a rock or something caught behind the brake backing plate, ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

When I took the car to that auto shop, they removed the wheel and checked around it. Should I take a closer look or take the set apart?

You would have to peek down between the rotor and backing plate with a good flashlight. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Alright, since I have to change the other wheel's bearing, I guess I have to open this one up as well. Thanks
