Honda makes weird noise when I turn engine on? Sign In

Hi,

I bought a 2009 Honda Accord last August and then installed a remote starter via third party service. Everything has been going fine until recently something odd happened.

When I turn my car on, I get a scratchy noise. This is the same noise you hear when you try to turn the car on when it is already on.

BUT here is where it gets weirder. When I turn on via remote starter, this noise does not happen?! How can this be...?

Thanks in advance for any advice. Should I rush this thing to the dealer to check on it?

Thanks!

If you think this is the same noise that causes flexplate and starter teeth to get mangled, absolutely get this looked at at once. It will help whatever shop you go to if you bring the information that came with this remote starter so they will have factory tech information on the system. Too many brands out there and us techs need a starting point to know what has been done with the car

What is starter teeth? Flexplate? I don't know what that is =(. It is a very slight scratching noise that lasts 1-2 sec when I start up the engine...

There is no remote starter manual? It's like the cheapest, most generic viper one.

So to the shop ASAP I go?

Yes, like Nick said that needs to be looked at right away before you do a lot of damage to the ring gear.

The dealer or independent shop will probably want to just remove the system.

If you want to keep the system, you will have to find a shop that installs & repairs them but don't waste time..... You could be doing thousands of dollars of damage right now if the start is engaging while the engine is running.....If it doesn't grind using the remote start, then start the car all the time that way until it's fixed........

But how can the remote starter be the cause if it starts up fine with it?
