Honda Pilot electric goes out occasionally on left turn Sign In

We have a 2007 Honda Pilot (162K miles) that runs great except one small bug. Every once in a while, when we’re turning left, everything will completely die in the middle of the intersection - gas pedal, power steering, everything. Then in a second or two, it’ll just jump back to life like it never happened.

I don’t think the engine itself ever dies because we don’t need to re-turn the key

A few other things:
• When it happens, the car lights sometimes flicker and there are clicks behind them as they turn on and off
• It seems to happen more on rainy days than dry ones
• It usually happens after we slow down to a stop after interstate driving
• It almost always happens on a left turn, but it once happened really quickly on a right turn
• It happens maybe once a month, so it’s impossible to replicate for the mechanic

We’ve had it looked at and no-one has any ideas, but we have had the alternator replaced and that didn’t stop it.

I don't know much about car repair, so thanks a ton for any advice
Greg

Greg,
Seems like your battery isn't fastened down well AND a problem with a cable right at it. If you can (use rubber gloves) just carefully see how tight it is in place and a visual of the clamps. IDK how someone "looked at it" already with your description and would miss that. It's heavy and would or could tilt?
Batteries are acidic is why rubber gloves, carefully remove those and throw them out, then wash hands well,

Thanks Tom - we just put a new battery in and it hasn't happened YET, so hopefully that'll help

I really thing that was it! Why is because most 2007 anything would be on a second, third or more new batteries. The silly parts that hold (they are heavy) aren't so strong or bust when changing one out - a routine at age. Hopefully a responsible tech would fix it AND rot proof areas known to go bad.
Proof now despite not very long is that was it and YOU should mark age of battery if you have this in about 4 years do it proactively they are wear items. Good luck,

Tom

Thanks Tom - I'll definitely look into that lead. Appreciate it!
